1. How much money does it take to start rock climbing?
The short answer is it depends on what you want to accomplish. A day pass at a gym usually around $20 so plan spending at least that to try it out. If you just plan on climbing in gym and nothing else it won’t cost you more than $75-100 to get the necessary gear, which is just a one time cost. After that you just have to pay for your gym membership. If you want to get into outdoor climbing you’re going to need to plan on spending more like $200-$500. Sometimes it’s smart to go in half on some of the gear like a rope with your climbing partner. This way you can split the cost a little.
2. Is Rock Climbing safe?
There is allows going to be a certain amount of risk when climbing. But at the end of the day if you have all of the necessary safety equipment and allows follow safe practices you should be fine. Climbing in a gym is the safest way to climb. And if you’re afraid of heights you can always try bouldering.
3. What if I don’t have climbing gym near my home
My suggestion for this is to hop on Facebook and find a rock climbing group in your area. Try to reach out and see if someone would let you tag along for a day.
4. How do I know where to find outdoor climbs when I’m ready to move outside?
There are lots of guide books out there that are really great, but my favorite method of finding climbs is through the app Mountain Project.
5. What is good climbing etiquette?
It’s important to have good etiquette when climbing, and each are you go to will have different “unwritten rules.” In general you want to remember to always be safe, don’t give beta (information on the climb) unless the climber wants it, and always be respectful. Also it’s going to be super important to always clean up after yourself. And if you have any questions about the particulars of a certain area just ask the locals. people are almost always willing to help out.
